Installing the Outlook Client

At the start of the CRM for Outlook installation, you will be given the choice of which client to install. Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook resides in Outlook for its main application interface, and is available from the Outlook shortcut bars and folder navigation in the main window of Outlook. Installing Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook creates a toolbar in Outlook and a folder in the user’s mailbox folder structure.

There are two steps that you must complete before you can run Enrollment Manager for Outlook. The steps are as follows:

  • Download/Install Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • Configure Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook.

More information about how to install Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook is described in the following sections.

Part 1: Install Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook

Note: We recommend that Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook not be installed on a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server.

  1. Log on to the computer as a user who has Local Administrator privileges.
  2. Meet all CRM for Outlook requirements, found on the Microsoft downloads page and make sure all current Microsoft Office security hotfixes are installed. To verify, visit Microsoft Update.
  3. Go to the download page for the Microsoft Dynamics Microsoft Outlook client.
  4. Upon selecting Download, you can either select Run or Save.
  5. Save the extracted files to a location on your computer that you will remember. You will get an “Extraction Complete” pop-up message when the extraction is finished.
  6. Once the client is downloaded and files extracted locally, you will need to launch the application file Setup Client, which is located where the extracted files were saved in step 5.
  7. Select the first option for Components to Install:

    Install Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook (Recommended).
  8. On the License Agreement page, review the information and, if you accept the license agreement, select I accept this license agreement. Click I Accept.

  9. If Setup detects that components are missing, the Install Required Components page appears. If you have already installed the required components listed, this page will not appear.

  10. If you have not installed the required components listed, you can install them now. Click Install. When the components are installed, the status column will change from Missing to Installed, and you can click Next to continue. 

    Note: These components are required before CRM for Outlook can be installed. You can exit Setup and install the components manually, or select Install. The Next button on this page is disabled until Setup detects these components are installed. The installation of .NET Framework 3.0 can take up to 10 minutes.

  11. You will next be prompted to select an Install location for Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook. It is recommended you stay with the default location (Program Files).

  12. The System Requirements page appears next. This page is a summary of all system requirements for a successful CRM for Outlook installation. Failed checks must be corrected before installation can continue to the next step. If there is a problem that will take time to correct, cancel Setup at this point, fix the problem, and restart Setup. When all checks are successful and you are ready to install, click Install.
  13. On the Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook Setup Completion page, click Close.
  14. After installation completes, you MUST install the latest updates to the client. Run Windows update to search for the latest rollup to the CRM for Outlook client. If your campus IT controls access to certain updates, this may not appear. If it does not, you can also check here for the latest update to download.

Part 2: Configure Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook

After you install CRM for Outlook, run the Configuration Wizard to complete the installation. The Configuration Wizard configures client settings, such as the web location of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server.

  1. Close/Exit Microsoft Outlook
  2. Go to Start/All Programs/Microsoft Dynamics CRM/Configuration Wizard.

Follow these steps to configure Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook.

  1. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  2. On the next page, select An Online Service Provider.
  3. For web address, insert your application address (i.e.https://yourschoolreference.422x.com )
  4. You will then be prompted for your username and password.
  5. On the Help Us Improve the Customer Experience page, select Next (this will not be supported/used).
  6. The System Requirements page appears. This is a summary of all system requirements for a successful CRM for Outlook installation. Failed checks must be corrected before configuration can continue. If a problem will take time to correct, cancel the Configuration Wizard at this point, fix the problem and restart the Configuration Wizard. All errors must be resolved. If there are no errors, or if only warnings appear, you can continue with the configuration. To do this, click Next.
  7. On the Configuration Complete page, click Finish. If there was a problem that occurred during the installation, click View the log file to review the log file for information about the configuration.
  8. Open Outlook. Note: You will be prompted for your CRM login.

 

Uninstall or Repair Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook

To remove (uninstall) or repair CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook, follow these steps.

Note: The following procedures must be completed while logged on to the client computer, and as the user who installed Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook the first time.

  1. In Windows, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs. On Windows Vista, click Start, type programs and features in the Start Search box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list.
  2. Select Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook and then click Change.
  3. In this step, you remove or repair the application.
  4. To repair the application, select Repair, and then click Next. Follow the instructions that are on the screen.
  5. To remove the application, on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook Maintenance page, select Uninstall, and then click Uninstall.
  6. If you are removing the application, delete the Microsoft Dynamics CRM folder that is located at <systemdrive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Note:  Uninstalling Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook may require restarting the computer.
